Virginia Senate candidate rails against DEI recruiting practices in military

Share

The Department of Defense reported that military services collectively missed recruiting goals by about 41,000 during the last fiscal year. This issue was highlighted in a recent debate between Virginia Senate candidates Tim Kaine, the incumbent Democrat, and his Republican challenger, Hung Cao. Cao’s comments on low military recruitment gained significant attention

“When you’re using a drag queen to recruit for the Navy, that’s not the people we want,” Cao said. “We need alpha males and alpha females that will rip out their own guts, eat them, and ask for seconds. That’s what we need; those are the men and women that are going to win wars.”

Cao has been critical of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) practices in the military, arguing they hinder recruitment. He posted on X last month, stating, “This administration has a growing obsession with DEI. It’s no wonder we have a military recruiting problem in our country.”

The Navy faced criticism, particularly from conservatives, last year when it announced a new digital ambassador program aimed at increasing youth recruitment. One of the chosen ambassadors was Joshua Kelly, an active-duty sailor who performs as drag queen Harpy Daniels.

Additionally, an Army recruitment ad released early in the Biden administration received backlash for featuring the story of a soldier with two mothers. The ad included lines about the soldier’s journey to enlistment, her two mothers’ marriage ceremony, and breaking stereotypes.

While conservatives like Cao argue that a focus on DEI makes the military less appealing to potential recruits, the Department of Defense defends its practices, asserting that “diversity is a strategic imperative critical to mission readiness and accomplishment.”

In the Virginia Senate race, polls indicate that while Hung Cao may have won the debate, Sen. Tim Kaine maintains a lead of up to 10 points.

KARAH RUCKER: THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE SAYS DURING THE LAST FISCAL YEAR – MILITARY SERVICES COLLECTIVELY **MISSED RECRUITING GOALS BY ABOUT 41 THOUSAND.

IT WAS AN ISSUE THAT CAME UP THIS WEEK DURING A DEBATE BETWEEN TWO CANDIDATES RUNNING FOR SENATE IN VIRGINIA.

INCUMBENT DEMOCRAT TIM KAINE.

AND HIS REPUBLICAN CHALLENGER HUNG CAO.

THIS RESPONSE FROM CAO TO LOW MILITARY RECRUITMENT GOING VIRAL.

“When you’re using a drag queen to recruit for the navy, that’s not the people we want. We need alpha males and alpha females that will rip out their own guts, eat them, and ask for seconds. That’s what we need, those are the men and women that are going to win wars. **applause “please, audience please.”

HUNG CAO HAS BEEN OUTSPOKEN OVER DEI PRACTICES IN THE MILITARY –

CALLING THEM A HINDRANCE TO RECRUITMENT.

POSTING ON X LAST MONTH “THIS ADMINISTRATION HAS A GROWING OBSESSION WITH DEI.

IT’S NO WONDER WE HAVE A MILITARY RECRUITING PROBLEM IN OUR COUNTRY.”

THE NAVY SPECIFICALLY WAS CRITICIZED LARGELY BY CONSERVATIVES LAST YEAR WHEN IT ANNOUNCED A NEW DIGITAL AMBASSADOR PROGRAM TO DRIVE UP RECRUITMENT AMONG THE YOUTH.

ONE OF ITS FIVE CHOSEN AMBASSADORS WAS JOSHUA KELLY – AN ACTIVE DUTY SAILOR WHO DOUBLES AS HARPY DANIELS – A DRAG QUEEN.

AND YOU MAY REMEMBER THIS ARMY RECRUITMENT AD EARLY ON IN THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION – WHICH AGAIN GAINED BACKLASH FROM CONSERVATIVES.

TELLING THE STORY OF ONE SOLDIER WITH TWO MOTHERS.

“Eventually standing at the altar, to marry my other mom. With such powerful role models, i finished high school at the top of my class.”

“After meeting with an army recruiter, i found it. A way to prove my inner strength and shatter stereotypes along the way.”

WHILE CONSERVATIVES LIKE CAO ARGUE A FOCUS ON DEI IS MAKING THE MILITARY LESS DESIRABLE FOR AMERICANS TO JOIN –

THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE STANDS BY ITS DEI PRACTICES –

SAYING “DIVERSITY IS A STRATEGIC IMPERATIVE CRITICAL TO MISSION READINESS AND ACCOMPLISHMENT.”

IN THE RACE FOR SENATE IN VIRGINIA –

POLLS SHOW HUNG CAO MAY HAVE WON THE DEBATE –

BUT SENATOR TIM KAINE HAS A HEALTHY LEAD IN THE RACE –
