President Donald Trump nominates current State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce to be deputy representative of the United States to the United Nations, he said on Truth Social Saturday, Aug. 9. “Since the beginning of my Second Term, Tammy has been serving with distinction as Spokesperson of the State Department, where she did a fantastic job,” Trump said. “Tammy Bruce will represent our Country brilliantly at the United Nations.”
Bruce responded later on Saturday, saying on X that she is “grateful for @POTUS‘s trust in nominating me.”
“I’ve been honored to serve as @StateDept Spokesperson, and now I’m blessed that in the next few weeks my commitment to advancing America First leadership and values continues on the global stage in this new post,” Bruce wrote. “ Onward!”

Before she joined the Trump administration, Bruce was a political contributor and commentator on Fox News for more than two decades. She is among several former employees of the network: including Pete Hegseth, Tulsi Gabbard, and Dan Bongino to name a few. Politico reports Bruce was a long-time Democrat and activist before switching to conservative ideology. She was also president of the National Organization for Women’s Los Angeles chapter. Since switching parties, Bruce has written several politically motivated books.
There is still no official U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Former National Security adviser Mike Waltz, who was let go after he accidentally added a journalist from an Atlantic to a Signal chat about bombing Yemen, is Trump’s nominee for the position. While Waltz had a confirmation hearing in July, the Senate has not taken a vote on his nomination. The role of deputy representative must also be confirmed by the Senate.
Dorothy Shea is the current acting ambassador. Shea served as deputy ambassador last year. No word from the State Department as to who will replace Bruce as spokesperson.
