The Kansas City Chiefs, and specifically tight end Travis Kelce, have made a big move on the NFL’s cutdown day. They’ve added a 14-time Grammy-winning superstar to the family.
How are the Chiefs reacting to ‘The Engagement’?
The biggest news out of the Kansas City Chiefs’ 2025 training camp came Tuesday when Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift announced their engagement on Instagram. Though it may not help them stay atop the AFC West division, the announcement broke the internet — again. The post had 1.2 million likes in the first 10 minutes.

The Chiefs are getting ready to head south to Brazil for the season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers, but they had plenty of congratulations for Kelce and Swift. Defensive end Mike Danna was the first to find out.
“Great for them, that’s a blessing anytime you find that type of joy, happiness and love, I think that’s a beautiful thing,” Danna said. “I just got told 30 seconds ago, so I don’t even know if they (his teammates) know, but that’s awesome, I’m so happy for them, Trav, Taylor, that’s a wonderful time in life, a wonderful part of their journeys, it’s a beautiful thing to see.”

Can anyone knock off the defending AFC champs?
Like Swift’s dominance on the Billboard charts, the Chiefs have gotten comfortable atop the rankings in the AFC West. They have won the division nine consecutive years. They’ve been to four of the last five Super Bowls. Putting their dynasty to bed right now, despite their crushing loss to Philadelphia in February, is probably a mistake. However, the AFC West is loaded, with three teams from a year ago that made the playoffs.
The 4-13 Raiders should also be better with a proven quarterback and coach. Pete Carroll was hired to resurrect “Just Win, Baby,” but he’ll likely use his own “Always Compete” mantra. Star defensive end Maxx Crosby can’t say enough about the soon-to-be 74-year-old’s attitude after 14 successful years with the Seattle Seahawks.
“I think Pete does such a good job, and the reason why he’s had so much success over his career is because he’s a true football coach and he loves being there,” Crosby said. “He loves every part of the game. He’s out there with us, you know what I mean? He thinks he’s a part literally on the team with us, throwing the ball around and running around. It just gives you even more energy every single day.”
Who are some breakout candidates in the AFC West?
Our breakout players list begins with running back Ashton Jeanty. Everything the Raiders do on offense will revolve around Boise State’s 2000-yard rusher, who was the sixth overall pick in April’s draft.
In Kansas City, another rookie will be counted on heavily; the Chiefs’ offensive line was overrun in the Super Bowl. The team took tackle Josh Simmons out of Ohio State with their first pick.
The Los Angeles Chargers need a running game if they want to improve, so they drafted Omarion Hampton out of North Carolina to pair with free agent signee Najee Harris. When quarterback Justin Herbert does step back to throw, second-year receiver Ladd McConkey will be a favorite target.
The Broncos seem to have all the pieces to challenge the Chiefs, and a breakout season from Marvin Mims, Jr. will only help. He caught 23 passes for 431 yards and five touchdowns during the final five games of 2024.
Are the Broncos best suited to take down Kansas City?
Second-year quarterback Bo Nix is becoming more comfortable as well. Last season, the Broncos were tied for sixth in the NFL with 30 receiving touchdowns. Safety Brandon Jones has seen the progression from Nix during training camp practice.
“You can see that he truly understands the defense, depending on the front coverages that we’re in,” Jones said. “He understands the beaters that come with certain coverages that you play. So, like I said before, I’ve seen him make that jump from a game-to-game basis last year and even since we started this fall.”
The Broncos’ defense ranked third in scoring and first in sacks in 2024, adding veterans Dre Greenlaw and Talanoa Hufanga in free agency, as well as first-round pick CB Jahdae Barron. They’re hoping they have the antidote for the Chiefs’ offense, but they still have no answer for the army of Swifties lining up against them.
