TMZ first reported the crash on Monday after obtaining photos of the wrecked vehicle.

“To avoid hitting him, I hit a tree — a big fat tree,” Baldwin said. He also thanked police for responding quickly and with kindness at the scene.

While he and his brother were not injured, Baldwin alluded to the mental toll of the crash.

“I’m going to L.A. to see my family, can’t wait,” Baldwin said in his post. “I’m still so proud of my wife, Hilaria. I love you more than anything.”

Weather and road conditions could have contributed

According to the National Weather Service, more than two inches of rain fell in East Hampton, New York, during this weekend’s nor’easter. Heavy rain and high winds knocked out power and caused travel delays along the East Coast. Roads were visibly wet, and skies were gloomy in photos of Baldwin’s accident obtained by TMZ.

The actor was in town for the Hamptons International Film Festival, for which he is co-chair of the board’s executive committee. In his Instagram post, he congratulated everyone involved in the festival before addressing the accident.

“It crushed my car — my wife’s car,” Baldwin said. “I feel bad about that.”

His wife, Hilaria, also posted a short video on Instagram, thanking followers for their concern.

The crash follows a string of high-profile incidents involving Baldwin, most notably the fatal “Rust” movie set shooting in 2021 that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Earlier this year, Baldwin filed a lawsuit against New Mexico prosecutors, accusing them of malicious prosecution and civil rights violations after involuntary manslaughter charges were dismissed. The case was dropped nearly six months after a judge cited the prosecution’s failure to share key evidence with the defense.
