Americans optimistic Trump will control illegal immigration: Poll

Americans are split on how they expect President-elect Donald Trump to handle key issues. However, one thing they do agree on is that the incoming president will control illegal immigration.

That’s according to a new Gallup poll taken last month and released Thursday, Jan. 2.

While Trump also made immigration and border security key parts of his 2016 campaign, voters are now more optimistic that he will control illegal immigration than they were after the 2016 election.

68% percent of voters say he’ll get illegal immigration under control, compared to 59% when Gallup asked the same question in 2016.

Expectations that Trump will control illegal immigration and reduce the crime rate are the highest any president has received since Gallup first took the poll in 1980.

However, the president-elect didn’t earn high marks on every issue, with 40% of voters or fewer believing he’ll improve the health care system, improve the quality of the environment, or heal political divisions in the U.S.
