In his campaign video, Cuomo acknowledged past mistakes during his career but described himself as a seasoned leader capable of bridging political divides.

“Did I always do everything right in my years of government service? Of course not. Would I do some things differently knowing what I know now — certainly. Did I make mistakes, some painfully? Definitely, and I believe I learned from them and that I am a better person for it,” Cuomo said.

The former governor faces a crowded primary field with low name recognition and an incumbent, Mayor Eric Adams, who remains under federal indictment on corruption charges.

The 56th governor of New York

He resigned as governor in August 2021 following sexual harassment allegations. Women began accusing Cuomo of misconduct in late 2020 and early 2021, leading to a potential impeachment before he stepped down. Cuomo has denied the allegations and later sued the attorney general’s office.

A state ethics panel unsuccessfully tried to get Cuomo to forfeit the proceeds of his book deal, arguing he used taxpayer resources to prepare, edit and publish the book.

Andrew Cuomo began his political career working for his father, former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, and later became U.S. housing secretary under former President Bill Clinton and New York attorney general before being elected governor in 2010.
