Despite being an outspoken critic of Israel’s war in Gaza, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., was not spared from vandalism at the hands of pro-Palestinian activists. Her Bronx office was splashed with red paint and a sign left by protesters read “AOC funds genocide in Gaza.” The vandalism is in apparent backlash from her decision to vote against slashing U.S. funding for Israel’s missile defense.
‘Boogie Down Liberation Front’ takes responsibility
The group that took responsibility for the actions, known as the Boogie Down Liberation Front, expressed disappointment after Ocasio-Cortez failed to support an amendment introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., that would have blocked U.S. funding for Israel’s air defense systems. Ocasio-Cortez defended her vote, noting that the proposed amendment did nothing to end the transfer of offensive weapons to Israel and would have eliminated some vital defense systems.

The proposed amendment to the Department of Defense Appropriations act proposed by Greene would have cut approximately $500 million from Israel’s air defense systems.
‘Boogie Down Liberation Front’s’ response
“The Bronx is sick and tired of people like AOC and Ritchie Torres using us as a stepping stone for their own political careers,” Boogie Down Liberation Front said in a statement. The Bronx stands with the people of Palestine and we denounce the hypocrisy of AOC who voted to fund Israel’s ongoing genocide and starvation campaign in Gaza. F— AOC!”

The House of Representatives passed the bill, which allocates around $832 billion in defense funding for fiscal year 2026, including increasing pay for troops and boosting research and development funds.
AOC defends vote
“Marjorie Taylor Greene amendment does nothing to cut off offensive aid to Israel nor the flow of US munitions being used in Gaza. Of course I voted against it.” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on X in the face of criticism. “What it does do is cut off defensive Iron Dome capacities while allowing the actual bombs killing Palestinians to continue,” she added. “I remain focused on cutting the flow of US munitions that are being used to perpetuate the genocide in Gaza.”
Ongoing investigation
Police told CBS News that a 911 call shortly before 12:45 a.m. on Monday, July 21, came in from Ocasio-Cortez’s office about the vandalism. So far, authorities said there have been no arrests and the investigation into the matter remains ongoing.
