Bill Maher is no stranger to political conversations, but now he’s taking the discussion to Pennsylvania Avenue.
“Kid Rock was here a couple of weeks ago and he said, ‘I want you to meet Trump. I’m going to take you to the White House. So now we’re going to do that’ Maher shared on his “Club Random” podcast while speaking with comedian Andrew Schulz.
The “Real Time” host has long been known for critiquing both Democrats and Republicans, and he’s definitely taken his share of jabs at President Trump over the years. Back in 2013, Trump filed a $5 million lawsuit against Maher after he joked on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” that Trump’s mother was an orangutan — a satirical dig at Trump’s then-demands for former President Obama’s birth certificate. That lawsuit was eventually dropped.
More recently, in a March interview with CNN, Maher expressed concerns about the lasting influence of Trump’s political movement. Now, he seems to be accepting an invitation to meet Trump at the White House, brushing off potential backlash from the left.
“There will be lots of people on the left who will be like, ‘How dare you talk to this man.’ It’s like, ‘fuck you, I’m not playing this game that you mean girls play.’ ‘Oh, you know what? You can’t sit at my lunch table, because I’m just not talking to you,’” Maher said on his podcast.
There are no official details yet on when this meeting will take place, but it appears this will be the first public face-to-face between Maher and Trump. Maher even joked about what he’ll wear, saying it won’t be casual like Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s recent White House visit. While Maher has been openly critical of Trump, he added that whether you love him or hate him, “you still have to respect that he won the election.”
