Trace Cyrus, the singer’s son, took to Instagram shortly after to express concern. In his post, Trace suggested Billy Ray might be dealing with substance abuse issues and accused his father of pushing his family away.
Days later, Trace Cyrus returned to Instagram, claiming his father is now threatening legal action.
“Dad, my message was beyond loving. I could have been extremely honest about a lot more, but I don’t want to put your business out there like that,” Trace wrote. “For you to threaten me with legal action for wanting you to get help is a disgrace.”
Trace ended the post with a plea: “I will always love you, but I no longer respect you as a man. Everyone close to you is terrified to tell you how they really feel. I’m not. Get help.”

In the video description for a repost of his 2009 music video, “Somebody Said a Prayer,” he thanked California for its rain and said he was “praying for his family, children, sons and daughters, and their mother.”
