Photos show a black car having collided with the gate on the western side of the White House complex. The New York Times reported the car was a 2010 Acura TSX with Maryland license plates.

Officials say President Donald Trump was in the White House at the time of the incident. However, they did not place the building on lockdown. The street leading to the gate remained closed until police could tow the vehicle away.

Other crashes at the White House

The most recent crash at White House gates occurred in May 2024, when a driver died after crashing into a security barrier. Officials investigated the crash as a traffic accident. However, the Secret Service said it would conduct a separate investigation into the driver’s background.

Another driver was arrested in January 2024 after driving into an exterior gate. Then-President Joe Biden was not at the White House at the time of the incident.

In May 2023, a driver crashed a rented U-Haul truck into a gate. He later told authorities he planned to kill Biden.

Tuesday’s crash comes amid heightened awareness of politicians’ security. In the last year, there have been two assassination attempts on Trump, a Democratic state lawmaker in Minnesota was killed in a political assassination and conservative activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated back in September.
