Liz Cheney challenges GOP to choose Constitution over Trump

Full story

Ahead of the one-year anniversary of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) is calling on Republicans to make a decisive choice about the party’s future. In an interview with ABC News, Cheney, a member of the House Select Committee, talked about the House Select Committee investigation on the January 6 Attack, former President Donald Trump, and the future of the Republican party.

“The Republican Party has to make a choice: we can either be loyal to our Constitution or loyal to Donald Trump but we cannot be both,” Rep. Cheney said.

In that same interview, Cheney, Trump’s loudest GOP critic, said he is “clearly unfit for future office.”

In 2021, Cheney and nine Republicans voted to impeach the former president, and she has been vocal about his hold on the party. But others in the GOP say the only way forward is with the former president.

“There’s no other option right now in the Republican party,” Rep. Peter Meijer (R-MI) said.
