SurveyUSA finds Democrats losing support from their base

A separate SurveyUSA poll of 1,705 registered voters highlights further challenges for Democratic lawmakers. The survey found that only 22% of Democrats believe their elected officials are “standing up to Trump the right amount,” while 60% feel they are not doing enough.

Republican approval reaches new heights

In contrast, the Quinnipiac poll shows growing support for Republicans in Congress. Around 40% of overall voters approve of GOP lawmakers’ performance — a record high — while 52% disapprove.

Among registered Republicans, 79% approve of their lawmakers’ performance, compared to just 10% who disapprove.

Democratic leaders respond to criticism

Facing mounting criticism from within their own party, Democratic leaders in Congress are seeking to address these concerns. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer urged patience, telling Semafor, “Trump will screw up.”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries acknowledged the limited “leverage” Democrats have, given Republican control of the House, Senate and White House. However, he emphasized that Democrats are taking legal action against Trump’s policies, with more than 65 lawsuits filed over executive orders.

Gallup poll reveals shift toward moderation among Democrats

A recent Gallup poll indicates a growing desire among Democrats for a more moderate approach. According to the poll, 45% of Democrats want the party to become more moderate, 29% prefer a more liberal direction, and 22% want it to stay the same.

This marks an 11 percentage point increase from 2021, when 34% of Democrats favored a more moderate stance.
