What did the notice say?

CBS News obtained the message, which states, “If you do not depart the United States immediately, you will be subject to potential law enforcement actions that will result in your removal from the United States — unless you have otherwise obtained a lawful basis to remain here.”

It’s not clear exactly how many people received termination notices, but according to CBS, the message tells migrants to sign up for self-deportation through the app.

A nonprofit organization that provides legal aid to migrants told The Associated Press that some people who received the letters are from Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico.

What did DHS say about the decision?

In a statement to multiple news outlets, DHS said, “Canceling these paroles is a promise kept to the American people to secure our borders and protect national security.”

Trump suspended the Biden-era app on the first day of his second term, canceling appointments for thousands of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border.

The administration also gave more than half a million Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans who arrived under Biden’s CHNV program until April 24 to self-deport. However, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said some migrants could be allowed to stay on a case-by-case basis.
