What does the report say?

According to NOTUS, on Tuesday, April 15, DOGE removed $962 million in previously stated cuts and changed other listings. The report indicated that DOGE did not update its website from the end of March to mid-April.

The report stated that DOGE also added many new cancellations while removing hundreds of others the week of April 14.

What is the largest example?

NOTUS said the biggest single example of savings “unlisted” was a $1.1 billion contract with the Acacia Center for Justice. It funded legal services for immigrant children who enter the U.S. unaccompanied. DOGE initially said the termination saved $337 million, but the contract no longer appears on the website. A judge recently put a restraining order on the Trump administration’s attempt to cut that funding.

The NOTUS investigation determined that the changes and errors to the website overstated the amount of money it claimed to be saving taxpayers. During a previous presidential cabinet meeting, Musk lowered the expectation for reducing government spending for the fiscal year from $1 trillion to $150 billion.

Other examples of cuts

Meantime, NPR reported a relief team that works for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had their jobs cut just as they were about to go door-to-door in hurricane-battered Asheville, North Carolina. A member of the 55-member team told NPR they were prepared to distribute questionnaires about unsafe drinking water, toxic chemical exposure and difficulties finding needed food.

The group was supposed to report their findings to local officials so they could help solve the most difficult problems. The worker told NPR they received an email when they were just about to start. That email said employees were being placed on paid leave and their mission was over.

The NPR report indicated the CDC cuts were part of roughly 10,000 cuts at federal health agencies, as directed by DOGE.
