Full story

Hunter Biden is firing back at First Lady Melania Trump’s threat to sue him for more than $1 billion unless he apologizes for claiming she had ties to convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Fox News, citing a letter from Mrs. Trump’s attorney, Alejandro Brito, reports that Biden was given until 5 p.m. on Aug. 7 to comply.

The letter calls his comments “false, defamatory, disparaging and inflammatory,” warning of “overwhelming financial and reputational harm” and demanding an immediate retraction.

Biden’s response

When asked if he would retract and apologize for his claims by Andrew Callaghan, who hosts “Channel 5,” Hunter Biden quickly shot down that idea.

“F— that. That’s not gonna happen,” Hunter Biden said.

Instead, he doubled down on those claims and contended that Mrs. Trump doesn’t have a case against him.

“If they want to sit down for a deposition and clarify the nature of the relationship between Jeffrey Epstein, if the president and the first lady want to do that, and all the known associates around them at the time of whatever time they met. I’m more than happy to provide them the platform to be able to do it,” Hunter Biden told Callaghan.

The claims

Biden’s comments stem from a YouTube video earlier this month titled “Hunter Biden Returns,” in which he claimed “Epstein introduced Melania to [Donald] Trump,” citing author Michael Wolff. Biden repeated the claim in his new interview with Callaghan, again naming Wolff as his source.

Wolff, who was granted unusual access to the Trump White House and has written four books on the president, made similar allegations in The Daily Beast podcast on July 26. The site later retracted an article repeating those claims and issued an apology after hearing from Mrs. Trump’s attorneys. Brito’s letter dismisses Wolff as a “serial fabulist.”

The backdrop

The legal clash comes as the Trump administration faces mounting pressure to release the so-called “Epstein files.” Biden, outspoken against both Democrats and Republicans since his father’s presidency, shows no sign of softening his stance.
