Media Miss by the right: Ontario’s Ford defends Reagan ad following Trump tariff retaliation

Ontario Premier Doug Ford said an ad he commissioned featuring former President Ronald Reagan’s 1987 speech on tariffs was “worth it,” despite it leading President Donald Trump to cancel trade talks and raise tariffs on Canadian goods by another 10%.

The ad, which Trump called “fraudulent” and said misrepresented Reagan’s message, aired during high-profile American broadcasts like the first game of the World Series.

“We achieved our goal,” Ford told reporters Monday. “They’re talking about it in the U.S., and they weren’t talking about it before I put the ad on.”
