A gunman killed one detainee and critically injured two at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed the details, saying the shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and used bullets with “anti-ICE” messaging on them.
Dallas police said they found one of the victims dead at the scene, and first responders transported two other injured victims with gunshot wounds to the hospital. However, the statement from DHS says a second victim died, and the third is in critical condition. DHS released a correction to its previous statement and said the shooting left one detainee dead, while two others are in critical condition.

The suspected shooter has been identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, according to several news outlets that independently confirmed with law enforcement.
According to DHS, the shooter “fired indiscriminately at the ICE building,” including at a van in the sallyport where the three victims were shot.
The Mexican Foreign Ministry said one of the victims is a Mexican national. In a statement, Mexican officials said they are in contact with the victim’s family and are providing support and legal assistance.
Following the incident, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said the Dallas field office was “fully engaged, in conjunction with our state and federal law enforcement partners.”
Anti-ICE messaging
In a news conference on Wednesday, Joe Rothrock, the FBI special agent in charge, confirmed that the gunman did not shoot or hurt any agents in the incident. However, he reported that bullets found near the shooter contained messages that were “anti-ICE in nature.”
Rothrock said the gunman engaged in an act of “targeted violence.”

FBI Director Kash Patel posted a photo on X of the bullets, noting one that had “ANTI-ICE” written on it. In the post, Patel wrote:
“These despicable, politically motivated attacks against law enforcement are not a one-off. We are only miles from Prarieland, Texas, where just two months ago an individual ambushed a separate ICE facility targeting their officers. It has to end and the FBI and our partners will lead these investigative efforts to see to it that those who target our law enforcement are pursued and brought to the fullest extent of justice.”
Politician responses
President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social Wednesday afternoon, saying he was debriefed about the shooting.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem shared the news on X, saying officials don’t know the motive yet, but “we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop.”
Noem also shared a second post, addressing violence against ICE agents, saying, “The violence and dehumanization of these men and women who are simply enforcing the law must stop. We are praying for the victims and their families.”
Vice President JD Vance responded to the incident, sharing a post on X saying, “The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop. I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families.”
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said his team is closely monitoring the situation and offered prayers to those injured.
Rep. Wesley Hunt, R-Texas, also posted about the shooting. He said, “Another violent attack on a Texas ICE facility. Multiple people have been shot as they were unloading detainees. Sending prayers to all those injured in this attack.”
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton posted on X, saying, “Join me in praying for the victims of this heinous shooting. We will continue to do everything in our power to combat the alarming increase of targeted attacks against ICE and all law enforcement by evil, twisted individuals.”
