At least four people in Arizona died after heavy rain led to flooding on Saturday. Carl Medford, manager for the Gila County Emergency Management, told multiple news outlets including the Arizona Republic that three of the deceased were from the city of Globe.

Medford told The Associated Press that sheriffs’ officials have gotten reports of missing people in Globe as well, though he could not immediately give a number.
“Tonight our community has experienced an unthinkable, devastating flood event,” Globe Mayor Al Gameros said in a statement early Saturday morning.
Numerous vehicles were swept away in the floods, he added, and additional search and rescue teams from both Maricopa and Pinal County were dispatched to the area.
The Globe City Council, at a meeting held Saturday afternoon, approved an emergency proclamation. Gameros said at the meeting that there have been buildings downtown that have been damaged “really bad.”
“It’s going to take all of us in this community to come back, and we can do it. We will do it,” Gameros said.
One other person was found dead near a vehicle in Scottsdale on Saturday morning, The AP reported.
Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs said on X that she declared a state of emergency “to ensure resources are available immediately and that every impacted community gets the support they need to recover and rebuild.”
“The flooding in Gila County has caused heartbreaking loss and serious damage,” Hobbs said.
The National Weather Service said one to two inches of rain were reported across much of the metro Phoenix area. As of 3:45 p.m. Saturday, the NWS said, scattered storms were expected to continue north through the region, “with a few stronger storms west of Phoenix & locally heavy rainfall elsewhere.”
