Summary

MTG versus Trump

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., once an ally of President Donald Trump, has become more vocal in criticizing him recently. This led to a social media fight between the two, in which Trump said he is “withdrawing my support and endorsement” of Greene.

Foreign policy

Greene previously told NBC News in an interview that Trump’s visit with foreign leaders “does nothing to solve the problems of vulnerable segments of our population, especially young people.”

Each side’s response

Trump alleged that Greene is only mad at him for saying she shouldn’t run for governor or senator, while Greene claims Trump’s ire stems from her trying to get the Epstein files released.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., responded Saturday after President Donald Trump said on Truth Social that he no longer supports her. In a post on X, she said Trump’s words fueled a “hot bed of threats” against her.

“Aggressive rhetoric attacking me has historically led to death threats and multiple convictions of men who were radicalized by the same type [of] rhetoric being directed at me right now. This time by the President of the United States,” Greene said. “As a woman I take threats from men seriously.”

The two began sparring this weekend on social media after Trump said he is “withdrawing my support and Endorsement of ‘Congresswoman’ Greene,” stating it is because “all I see ‘Wacky’ Marjorie do is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN!”

Greene, once one of Trump’s allies, has grown more vocal in her criticism of Trump over foreign policy and economic issues in particular.

In an interview this month with NBC News, Greene questioned Trump’s commitment to the “America First” agenda, bashing his meetings with Argentina’s president, Javier Milei, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

These visits do “nothing to solve the problems that are really plaguing vulnerable segments of our population, especially young people,” she told NBC.

Greene: There needs to be a ‘new way forward’

On Friday, Trump defended his record, and claimed Greene was angry at him for sending her a poll stating she shouldn’t run for senator or governor.

Greene “didn’t have a chance (unless, of course, she had my Endorsement — which she wasn’t about to get!),” Trump said.

Following Trump’s post, Greene on X thanked those whom she said posted and commented support for her.

Saying that there “needs to be a new way forward,” Greene added that the “toxic political industrial complex thrives on ripping us all apart but never delivers anything good for the American people, whom I love.”

She said that the spat with Trump was caused in part because she wants the release of records connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Emails released Wednesday by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee suggest Trump was aware of the late financier’s conduct for years. Trump has now directed the Justice Department to investigate Epstein’s ties to his political foes such as former President Bill Clinton.

Greene was one of four Republicans who signed a petition to force a House of Representatives vote requiring the Department of Justice to release all the information it has about Epstein.

“I never thought that fighting to release the Epstein files, defending women who were victims of rape, and fighting to expose the web of rich powerful elites would have caused this, but here we are,” Greene wrote Saturday morning. “And it truly speaks for itself. The PIC tells us to hate each other, fundraises off why we have to hate each other, and pits Americans against each other to the point of violence and nearing civil war.”

Trump later posted that “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Green is a disgrace to our GREAT REPUBLICAN PARTY!”
