Oregon officials are calling an attack on a Portland government building premeditated and coordinated after a group of masked individuals vandalized an election office early Monday morning, Jan. 20. Authorities said that despite the damage, no injuries were reported, as the building was closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Surveillance footage shows attack
Surveillance video captured a two-minute attack, showing at least eight individuals approaching the election office in Portland’s largest county. Armed with bags and spray paint, the group is seen throwing rocks at the building before running off. Police responded within a few minutes of an alarm being triggered by the individuals.

While the election office was closed for the holiday, the attackers left behind shattered glass from more than two dozen windows and doors. Officials also reported anti-government graffiti on the building’s exterior, though the interior reportedly remained undamaged.
Motivation unknown as investigation continues
Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the attack. It is unclear whether the vandalism was linked to any specific political event, such as Donald Trump’s inauguration.
The attack comes a few months after the FBI investigated an arson attempt on Portland ballot boxes ahead of the November election.
As of Tuesday, Jan. 21, Portland police have not released information about any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the incident.
