A Major League Soccer fan who filmed himself being kicked out of a Missouri stadium for wearing a “Make America Great Again” cap has gone viral — with the video gaining millions of views. The fan, Michael Weitzel, said he was watching the St. Louis SC soccer game on July 26 at Energizer Park when, with about 25 minutes left in the game, security asked him to either remove his hat or leave.

“I didn’t think there’d be any issue with wearing that to the game, but with about 25 minutes left in the game, I was basically told they’d received a complaint about my hat,” Weitzel told KFTK’s “The Marc Cox Morning Show.”
“They told me I could either hide the hat or take it out to my car or leave,” he said. “I’m not gonna take my hat off for anybody. I live in America, which is the land of the free and home of the brave, I thought. So you do what you have to do.”
According to St. Louis City SC’s website, the stadium prohibits political banners, flags, images and signs unless pre-approved. Weitzel said he saw political messaging inside the stadium but says staff told him those had received prior approval.
What the video shows
In the footage, Weitzel, wearing a MAGA hat and red shirt, is approached by four security guards who explain that political attire is not allowed. They ask him to leave the stadium.
“I’m being asked to leave by police. I am being threatened with arrest. They are asking me to leave,” Weitzel says as he’s being escorted out of the stadium, with some fans yelling and booing in the background.

“I am being evicted from the premises because of Donald Trump — because we can’t wear Donald Trump hats in public,” he added. “Now I am being evicted from the premises. Trump is not welcome at St. Louis City’s SC Club. Trump is not welcome here.”
An officer escorting Weitzel out of the stadium tells him that he is also a Trump supporter, but acknowledges that he is just enforcing the soccer club’s policies.
“He gets it. He’s just following the rules,” Weitzel says in the video.
“It’s not his fault. This is the stadium’s rules here. So that’s what happens if you wear a Donald Trump hat to a St. Louis City Soccer Club game,” Weitzel says.
Weitzel reluctant to return
Weitzel says he kept to himself during the match despite claims that some fans flipped him off. He says he was shocked by the response and is now hesitant to return — even though he owns three years’ worth of season tickets.
“I do want to see them do well,” Weitzel said. “I don’t really want to let the actions of a few small-minded people or a few angry complainers stop me from enjoying something I love.”
Video goes viral
Mediate reports that Weitzel’s video gained traction after conservative strategist Gregg Keller of the Atlas Strategy Group posted it to X on Saturday.
As of this report, neither the soccer team nor Major League Soccer has issued an official statement on the incident.
In a follow-up post, Keller said on X that he “can confirm this video is being looked at by the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.”
