Nearly 20 people are missing and feared dead after a massive explosion at a military weapons plant in rural Tennessee. Authorities say the explosion happened at about 7:50 a.m. Friday in Hickman County, just outside of Nashville.
The incident happened at the Accurate Energetic Systems plant. The plant manufactures explosives for the military, along with the space, demolition and oil industries.

Local authorities said there are “multiple” deaths and that they are searching for 19 others who were inside the building when the explosion happened. According to local news outlets, officials were concerned about potential secondary explosions but have since said there is no further danger of another explosion. However, they have asked the public to remain clear of the area so authorities can continue their investigation.
Authorities have not said how many people were killed, but the 19 missing workers are feared dead, according to The Associated Press.

A post on X showed just how devastating the explosion was, with a before-and-after of the building it took place at. The aerial photo shows a large debris field with several fires still burning.
Local news station WSMV said the explosion was so large that the plume of smoke was on its weather radar. Doorbell video from miles away also captured the noise of the blast.
According to officials, the explosion was so large that it encompassed an entire building at the site. Federal authorities, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), have opened an investigation into the blast. Officials said they expect to remain in the area for the next few days as they work to determine what triggered the explosion.
