Members went public with their accusations against leadership after a censure resolution against Delegate Stacy Plaskett, D-V.I., failed because three Republicans voted against it. Some Republican women are accusing leadership of making a deal to save Plaskett from censure in exchange for dropping a Democratic-led resolution against Mills.

“I was wondering if the speaker of the House of Representatives can explain why leadership on both sides, both Democrat and Republican, are cutting back-end deals to cover up public corruption in the House of Representatives from both Republican and Democrat members of Congress?” Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., said on the House floor after the Plaskett censure failed.

“I think the American people know what happened tonight,” Luna added.

What are the accusations against Mills?

The censure resolution against Mills makes detailed accusations regarding stolen valor, impropriety with government contracts and domestic abuse.

Censure is the second-highest form of punishment in Congress for conduct that is unacceptable but does not warrant expulsion.

  • Bronze Star

Members of the military who served with Mills in Iraq have cast doubt on a story that led to him receiving a Bronze Star for service under enemy fire. The form recommending Mills for the award includes a signature from a Brigadier General who said he did not write, read or sign it. Two people he purportedly saved — the rescue was the basis for the award — denied that he provided aid or that the injuries were life-threatening. Another man called the account a “fabrication.”

  • Pacem Solutions

Mills founded Pacem Solutions International and Pacem Defense LLC, which have contracts with both the United States and foreign governments. The Office of Congressional Conduct said the companies have received close to $1,000,000 in contracts for munitions and weapons. The OCC said there is substantial reason to believe that Mills may have entered into, held or enjoyed contracts while a member of Congress, a violation of House Rules and federal law.

  • Restraining order

A federal judge in Florida issued a restraining order against Mills for his ex-girlfriend. The judge determined that his former romantic partner was either a victim of dating violence or in imminent danger of becoming a victim of dating violence. According to reports, his ex-girlfriend wrote that Mills threatened to release explicit images of her and harm anyone else she dates.

Mills has denied all wrongdoing. Straight Arrow News reached out to his office for a response to the censure resolution.
