Authorities are looking for multiple suspects after five separate shootings in Mississippi left nine people dead and 20 injured over the weekend. The deadliest shooting happened in downtown Leland during homecoming weekend after a Friday night high school football game.
The Leland shooting occurred around midnight Saturday on Main Street. Leland Mayor John Lee said six people died after a total of 16 were shot. According to WLBT News, several victims are still being treated at local hospitals.
So far, no suspects have been arrested in the Leland case. The FBI’s field office in Jackson is seeking information on four potential suspects.

The FBI released surveillance photos showing four people — three men and one woman — who are suspected of being connected to the Leland shooting, but their identities are unknown. Law enforcement hasn’t said why the shooting happened.
High school shootings leave multiple victims
Additionally, there were two other shootings on Friday at two Mississippi high schools. Both of which were also having their own homecoming celebrations.
One happened at South Delta High School after a football game on Friday night, as reported by WLBT News. One person was shot and taken to a local hospital by ambulance and survived. Sharkey County Sheriff Herbert Ceaser Sr. said police arrested two people on Saturday in connection with the shooting.
Then, two people were shot and killed at Heidelberg High School on Friday, WLBT News reports. At least one other person was also injured but survived. One of the people who died was found on the school’s baseball field, while the other was found in a tailgating area near the bleachers.
In a statement, Gov. Tate Reeves said one of the victims was an expectant mother.
“Our state is praying for the victims and their families, as well as the entire Heidelberg and Leland communities. Those responsible will be brought to justice,” Reeves said.
A person of interest, Tylar Jarod Goodloe, 18, was taken into custody Saturday by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department for the Heidelberg High School shooting.
University events also turn violent
The day after the high school shootings, two more shootings happened at college events on Saturday — one at Alcorn State and one at Jackson State. Altogether, one person died and three were hurt.
