KVOA-TV of Tucson reported that when paramedics and an ambulance crew arrived, one person was wounded and another had been taken into custody.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said it is leading a use-of-force investigation involving the Customs and Border Protection agent involved in the shooting, the local station reported.

“Such requests are standard practice when a federal agency is involved in a shooting incident within Pima County and consistent with long standing relationships built through time to promote transparency,” PCSD said.

The shooting comes just three days after federal agents shot Alex Pretti to death in Minneapolis as immigration officers engaged in an aggressive enforcement action. That fatal shooting was the second by federal agents in Minneapolis in less than a month and has led to heightened scrutiny for federal agencies.

The Santa Rita Fire Department said in a statement that first responders airlifted the shooting victim to a nearby hospital, according to NBC News.

“Patient care was transferred to a local medical helicopter for rapid transport to a regional trauma center,” the fire department stated. “The incident remains under active investigation by law enforcement agencies.”
