Among those targeted are Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his teammate, tight end Travis Kelce, whose homes were burglarized just hours apart, according to authorities.

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mike Conley Jr. also became a victim when his home was burglarized while he attended a Vikings game.

“Obviously it’s frustrating,” Mahomes said during a press conference on Nov. 13. “It’s disappointing. But I can’t get into too many of the details because the investigation is still ongoing. But obviously it’s something you don’t want to happen to, really, anybody, but obviously, yourself.”

Milwaukee Bucks star Bobby Portis was also the victim of a burglary at his residence in Wisconsin, where thieves took some of his most prized possessions.

“I am now offering a $40,000 cash reward for any information or tips that leads to the return of my stolen items,” Portis said in a video posted to his Instagram account.

Detectives say the burglaries appear to fit a pattern connected to an organized transnational crime ring from South America that has been targeting affluent neighborhoods in several states.

Authorities in California, Colorado and Michigan have all reported home invasions in high-end areas, and they believe these incidents are connected to South American gangs.

Currently, law enforcement has not been able to determine who is responsible for the spate of burglaries at the athletes’ homes.

ATHLETES’ HOMES TARGETED AND BURGLARIZED. THE FBI NOW INVESTIGATING IF THE STRING OF INCIDENTS IS CONNECTED TO A SOUTH AMERICN CRIME RING.

TARGETED PRO ATHLETES INCLUDE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS STAR QUARTERBACK, PATRICK MAHOMES, AND HIS TEAMMATE, TIGHT END TRAVIS KELCE WHOSE HOMES WERE BOTH BURGLARIZED JUST HOURS APART, ACCORDING TO AUTHORITIES.

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES GUARD MIKE CONLEY JUNIOR’S HOME WAS BURGLARIZED WHILE HE ATTENDED A VIKINGS GAME.

“OBVIOUSLY IT’S FRUSTRATING,” MAHOMES SAID DURING A PRESS CONFERENCE ON NOVEMBER 13. “IT’S DISAPPOINTING. BUT I CAN’T GET INTO TOO MANY OF THE DETAILS BECAUSE THE INVESTIGATION IS STILL ONGOING. BUT OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING YOU DON’T WANT TO HAPPEN TO REALLY ANYBODY BUT OBVIOUSLY, YOURSELF.”

AND MILWAUKEE BUCKS STAR BOBBY PORTIS WAS ALSO THE VICTIM OF A BURGLARY AT HIS RESIDENCE IN WISCONSIN SAYING THE THIEVES TOOK SOME OF HIS MOST PRIZED POSSESSIONS.

“I AM NOW OFFERING A $40,000 CASH REWARD FOR ANY INFORMATION OR TIPS THAT LEADS TO THE RETURN OF MY STOLEN ITEMS,” PORTIS SAID IN A VIDEO POSTED TO HIS INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT.

DETECTIVES SAY THE BURGLARIES APPEAR TO FIT A PATTERN CONNECTED TO AN ORGANIZED TRANSNATIONAL CRIME RING FROM SOUTH AMERICA THAT’S BEEN TARGETING AFFLUENT NEIGHBORHOODS IN SEVERAL STATES.

AUTHORITIES IN CALIFORNIA, COLORADO AND MICHIGAN HAVE ALL REPORTED HOME INVASIONS IN HIGH-END AREAS, AND BELIEVE THEY’RE CONNECTED TO SOUTH AMERICAN GANGS.

CURRENTLY, LAW ENFORCEMENT HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO DETERMINE WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SPATE OF BURGLARIES OF THE ATHLETES’ HOMES.

As Trump plans record deportations, how would it compare to past presidents?

Listen
Share

The U.S. has deported millions of undocumented immigrants under Presidents Obama, Trump and Biden, but each administration’s approach has differed significantly in scale and strategy. As President-elect Trump promises to ramp up deportations, a look at the numbers reveals surprising trends.

Under President Obama, deportations reached historic highs. From 2009 to 2016, his administration conducted over 3 million removals and 5.24 million total repatriations when including voluntary returns.

Obama prioritized deporting individuals who posed security threats or had criminal records, with 91% of 2015’s deportations involving such cases.

President-elect Trump said he's preparing to use the military for deportations. He also used the military during his first term.

In contrast, President Trump oversaw 2 million total deportations and returns during his term. While he reversed Obama’s policy of prioritizing criminals, deportations fell far short of his promises.

By 2019, only 41% of deportations involved individuals with criminal records, compared to Obama’s higher rates.

President Biden’s administration has repatriated 4.7 million people so far, surpassing his predecessors in total numbers. However, much of this was driven by Title 42, a pandemic-era health policy, which allowed for expedited expulsions.

Under traditional immigration law, Biden’s numbers are far lower, with just 649,000 formal removals since 2021.

As Trump prepares to take office, his administration is signaling plans for an unprecedented deportation campaign. Trump’s prior administration saw mixed results in deportation enforcement, leaving questions about the feasibility of his new goals.

IMMIGRATION AND DEPORTATION HAS BEEN A SMOLDERING ISSUE IN AMERICAN POLITICS FOR DECADES. WITH PRESIDENT-ELECT TRUMP PROMISING HISTORY’S LARGEST MASS DEPORTATION EFFORT, HOW WILL THE ACTUAL NUMBERS STACK UP TO HIS PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATION? AND HOW DOES HIS RECORD COMPARE TO BIDEN’S AND OBAMA’S?ACCORDING TO PEW RESEARCH… AROUND 11 MILLION PEOPLE LIVE IN THE U-S ILLEGALLY. OF THOSE… 8-POINT-3 MILLION ARE EMPLOYED, ACCOUNTING FOR NEARLY 5-PERCENT OF THE U-S WORKFORCE. THESE ARE THE MOST RECENT NUMBERS FROM 2022 AND THE EXACT TOTAL COULD BE MUCH HIGHER.

DEPORTATION IN THE U-S HAPPENS THROUGH TWO MAIN CHANNELS… REMOVALS AND RETURNS.

REMOVALS INVOLVE FORMAL DEPORTATION ORDERS ENFORCED BY ICE OR BORDER PATROL, MAKING REENTRY A CRIME.

RETURNS ARE LESS FORMAL, INCLUDING CASES WHERE INDIVIDUALS VOLUNTARILY LEAVE OR ARE TURNED AWAY AT THE BORDER.

UNDER PRESIDENT OBAMA, THE U.S. SAW THE HIGHEST DEPORTATION TOTALS IN HISTORY. TOTAL REMOVALS DURING OBAMA’S PRESIDENCY AMOUNTED TO OVER 3 MILLION PEOPLE. AND WHEN INCLUDING BOTH REMOVALS AND RETURNS, THAT NUMBER JUMPS TO NEARLY 5 AND A QUARTER MILLION.

OBAMA PRIORITIZED TARGETING INDIVIDUALS WHO WERE THREATS TO NATIONAL SECURITY OR HAD CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS. IN 2015, FOR EXAMPLE, 91-PERCENT OF ALL REMOVALS INVOLVED INDIVIDUALS WITH CRIMINAL RECORDS.

NOW TO PRESIDENT TRUMP. DURING HIS TIME IN OFFICE FROM 2017 TO 2020, THE U-S DEPORTED 1-POINT-2 MILLION PEOPLE THROUGH FORMAL REMOVAL ORDERS. MORE THAN 800-THOUSAND ADDITIONAL INDIVIDUALS SELF-DEPORTED OR WERE TURNED AWAY AT THE BORDER.

THIS BRINGS TRUMP’S TOTAL DEPORTATIONS AND RETURNS TO JUST OVER 2 MILLION… SIGNIFICANTLY FEWER THAN OBAMA’S.

UNLIKE OBAMA, TRUMP EXPLICITLY OVERTURNED THE CRIMINAL PRIORITIZATION POLICY, WHICH RESULTED IN ONLY 41-PERCENT OF REMOVALS IN 2019 INVOLVING INDIVIDUALS WITH CRIMINAL RECORDS.

FINALLY, UNDER PRESIDENT BIDEN…. THE U-S HAS REPATRIATED NEARLY 5 MILLION PEOPLE SO FAR… MORE THAN BOTH TRUMP AND OBAMA.

HOWEVER, THERE’S AN IMPORTANT CAVEAT. THE SPIKE IS LARGELY DUE TO TITLE 42… A PANDEMIC-ERA POLICY ENACTED IN 2020 DURING TRUMP’S PRESIDENCY, WHICH ALLOWED EXPULSIONS FOR PUBLIC HEALTH REASONS.

OF THE 4-POINT-7 MILLION REPATRIATIONS, NEARLY A MILLION OCCURRED UNDER STANDARD IMMIGRATION LAW, TITLE 8, AFTER TITLE 42 ENDED IN MAY 2023.

WHEN FOCUSING SOLELY ON FORMAL REMOVALS, BIDEN’S NUMBERS ARE FAR LOWER… WITH JUST 649-THOUSAND REMOVALS SINCE 2021. THAT’S ABOUT HALF OF TRUMP’S TOTAL OVER A COMPARABLE PERIOD. ADDITIONALLY, IN 2024, ONLY 20-PERCENT OF REMOVALS INVOLVED INDIVIDUALS WITH CRIMINAL RECORDS.

MEANWHILE, PRESIDENT-ELECT TRUMP IS DOUBLING DOWN ON HIS PROMISE TO LAUNCH THE LARGEST DEPORTATION OPERATION IN U.S. HISTORY. HIS ADMINISTRATION PLANS TO FOCUS INITIALLY ON CRIMINAL DEPORTATIONS, BUT TRUMP HAS NOT SET A NUMERICAL GOAL.

EXPERTS SAY SUCH AN OPERATION COULD BE COSTLY. A SINGLE DEPORTATION COSTS ALMOST 11-THOUSAND PER PERSON, AND DEPORTING 1 MILLION PEOPLE ANNUALLY COULD COST OVER 100 BILLION DOLLARS OVER THE NEXT DECADE.

WITH TRUMP’S PROMISES OF SWEEPING REFORMS, THE DEBATE OVER COST, LEGALITY, AND STRATEGY IS ONLY HEATING UP.

Seven states surround the river and depend on it. They are New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, Nevada and California. The Colorado River is the largest source of water in the region and provides clean water, hydropower and habitat to roughly 40 million people, as well as tribal nations and a wide range of species.

The battle over water rights has gone on for decades as drought conditions and rising temperatures have resulted in lower water levels. Researchers at UCLA have determined 10 trillion gallons of water have gone out of the river basin between 2000 and 2021.

A climate adviser to the White House says it owes it to future generations to find long-term solutions that ensure the river’s stability.

A top water official from Arizona said the states will try to make as much progress as they can in the days that remain in this administration.

UN diplomats offer broad support for peacekeeping mission in Haiti

The United Nations is currently considering establishing a peacekeeping operation in Haiti as the country becomes more unstable and gangs take more control of Port-au-Prince. Officials with the U.N. expressed support on Wednesday, Nov. 20, for transitioning a recently extended U.N.-backed multinational security support mission in Haiti into a U.N. peacekeeping operation despite continued opposition from China and Russia.

“Ongoing security council discussions about international engagement in Haiti’s security and stability to succeed the MSS highlight the need of the government of Haiti and the international community to have a long-term vision.” Miroslav Jenca, the U.N. assistant secretary general, said.

Haitian leaders have continually asked the partially deployed and under-resourced multinational security force to be transformed into a peacekeeping effort to enhance funding.

If approved, a lengthy process would begin. The U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres would then be required to file a report of recommendations.

The United States and Ecuador presented a proposal for the transition in September. However, it failed after resistance from China and Russia. Both countries have veto powers within the U.N.

Moscow and Beijing are still refusing to get on board, despite most diplomats supporting the idea.

Russia and China argue a pause in violence is needed to rationalize sending a peacekeeping mission. They’ve also signaled a distrust of Haiti’s government.

Instead, Beijing and Moscow are proposing continued focus and fulfilling pledges from the multinational security mission.

Violence on the island nation rose dramatically this month as gangs opened fire on three commercial planes. The shootings caused the U.S. to pause flights into the country.

Just this past week, at least 150 people were reportedly killed in gang-related violence. After the violence, the charity Doctors without Borders suspended operations in Haiti.

“We are deeply concerned about the safety, basic needs and human rights of people residing in gang-controlled areas, in particular those of women and children,” Jenca said. “Predatory gangs systematically attack communities using extreme forms of violence including sexual violence as a weapon to subjugate them.”

A Haitian health official, whose son was reportedly kidnapped, warned if more isn’t done by the international community, “the alternative will be a massive genocide that has already started.” He said only the U.N. has the power to stop it.

The animals are currently in quarantine and will move to enclosures at the zoo, a landmark in Pyongyang since 1959. Russian state media called the shipment “Vladimir Putin’s gift to the Korean people.”

This gesture comes amid deepening relations between Russia and North Korea. In June, Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a strategic partnership treaty. It marked the closest alliance between the two nations since the Cold War.

U.S. and South Korean intelligence reports indicate North Korea has sent thousands of troops to aid Russia in its war against Ukraine.

Western nations have expressed concerns this burgeoning partnership could lead to North Korea gaining advanced military technologies from Russia, potentially enhancing its missile programs. Pyongyang, facing severe economic challenges and international sanctions, has increasingly relied on Moscow for support.

The growing alliance has included multiple symbolic gestures. Earlier this year, Putin gifted Kim 24 purebred horses in apparent gratitude for artillery support provided by North Korea. Kim also received a Russian-made luxury limousine and other gifts during a visit to Russia.

Evidence presented in court includes detailed tracking of bribes, financial summaries and digital records. Prosecutors also allege that Adani personally met with government officials to advance the scheme.

The charges include securities fraud and wire fraud conspiracy. Arrest warrants have been issued, though Adani remains in India. The Adani Group has denied the allegations, describing them as “baseless.”

In a separate civil case, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) alleges that Adani and others misrepresented their anti-corruption practices to investors. U.S. authorities claim the alleged bribery and fraud schemes helped secure financing, including $175 million from U.S. investors.

This is not the first controversy involving Adani’s business empire. Last year, a U.S. short-seller accused the conglomerate of stock manipulation and fraud, resulting in billions of dollars in lost market value, according to CNN.

The latest charges have triggered a sharp decline in Adani’s companies’ stock values, with shares losing nearly $30 billion in a single day. A planned $600 million bond sale was also canceled.

The case has sparked political fallout in India, with opposition parties calling for a parliamentary investigation. Critics allege favoritism by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government toward Adani, a claim both Modi and Adani deny.

The court announced that it issued the warrants against the two Israelis for alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes in the country’s attacks on Gaza.

Palestinian officials have claimed the death toll in the region has topped 40,000 since Israel responded to the Hamas-led terror attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

The ICC says the warrants include the war crime of starvation as a method of warfare and intentionally directing an attack against the civilian population. It found there was reason to believe both Netanyahu and Gallant intentionally and knowingly deprived the civilian population in Gaza of food, water, medicine, fuel and electricity from October 2023 to May 2024.

The prosecutor also alleges they hampered humanitarian organizations from providing food and other aid to people in Gaza, who were in desperate need. Netanyahu’s office has called the court’s decision “antisemitic” and the charges “absurd and false.”

The court also issued an arrest warrant for Mohammed Deif. Deif is accused of war crimes for his role in Hamas’s attack on Israel. However, Israel claims it killed Deif earlier this year. The prosecutor had filed similar warrants against Hamas leaders Sinwar and Haniyeh, but withdrew those warrants after confirmation that Israel had killed both.

Israel and the United States do not recognize the International Court’s jurisdiction. However, many countries in Europe do, which puts Israeli officials at risk for arrest in those countries.

Incoming Senate Republican Majority Leader John Thune, S.D., warned Sunday, Nov. 17, that the U.S. could impose sanctions on the International Criminal Court if it issues war crimes arrest warrants against Israeli officials.

THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT AT THE HAGUE HAS ISSUED ARREST WARRANTS FOR ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER BENJAMIN NETANYAHU, FORMER DEFENSE MINISTER YOAV GALLANT, AS WELL AS HAMAS MILITARY LEADER MOHAMMED DEIF, FOR THEIR ROLES IN THE ONGOING WAR IN THE MIDDLE EAST.
THE COURT ANNOUNCED THAT IT ISSUED THE WARRANTS AGAINST THE TWO ISRAELIS FOR ALLEGED CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY AND WAR CRIMES, IN THE COUNTRY’S ATTACKS ON THE GAZA STRIP.
PALESTINIAN OFFICIALS HAVE CLAIMED THE DEATH TOLL IN THE REGION HAS TOPPED 40,000 SINCE ISRAEL RESPONDED TO THE HAMAS-LED TERROR ATTACK ON ISRAEL, ON OCTOBER 7TH 2023.
THE ICC SAYS THE WARRANTS INCLUDE THE WAR CRIME OF STARVATION AS A METHOD OF WARFARE AND INTENTIONALLY DIRECTING AN ATTACK AGAINST THE CIVILIAN POPULATION. IT FOUND THERE WERE REASON TO BELIEVE THAT BOTH NETANYAHU AND GALLANT “INTENTIONALLY AND KNOWINGLY” DEPRIVED THE CIVILIAN POPULATION, IN GAZA, OF FOOD, WATER, MEDICINE, FUEL AND ELECTRICITY FROM OCTOBER OF 2023 TO MAY OF 2024.
THE PROSECUTOR ALSO ALLEGES THEY HAMPERED HUMANITARIAN ORGANIZATIONS FROM PROVIDING FOOD AND OTHER AID TO PEOPLE IN GAZA IN DESPERATE NEED.
NETANYAHU’S OFFICE HAS CALLED THE COURT’S DECISION “ANTISEMITIC” AND THE CHARGES “ABSURD AND FALSE.”
THE COURT ALSO ISSUED AN ARREST WARRANT FOR MOHAMMEN DEIF.
IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT ISRAEL AND THE UNITED STATES DO NOT RECOGNIZE THE COURT’S JURISDICTION HOWEVER MANY COUNTRIES IN EUROPE DO – WHICH PUTS THE ISRAELI OFFICIALS AT RISK FOR ARREST IN THOSE COUNTRIES.
MEANTIME, IN A SEPARATE DEVELOPMENT, U-S ENVOY AMOS HOCHSTEIN IS EXPECTED TO MEET WITH BENJAMIN NETANYAHU ON THURSDAY AFTER REPORTING PROGRESS IN CEASE-FIRE TALKS IN BEIRUT, WITH THE MILITANT GROUP, HEZBOLLAH, WHICH IS ALSO WAGING WAR, WITH ISRAEL.

The investigation started in February 2024 after the FBI received a tip that Yener was keeping bomb-making supplies in a storage unit.

Investigators said they found bomb-making sketches, watches with timers, electronic circuit boards and other electronics that could be used for building explosive devices in Yener’s Coral Springs storage unit.

Court documents indicate Yener also told undercover FBI agents he wanted to set off the bomb the week before Thanksgiving. He’s also quoted as saying “tons of people” would support an attack on the stock exchange and that his goal was to “reset” or “reboot” the U.S. government.
