Palestinian militant group releases new video of Israeli hostage held by Hamas

Full story

A Palestinian militant group released a new video Wednesday, Nov. 13 showing Sasha Troufanov, an Israeli hostage held by Hamas. This marks the third video of Troufanov since his capture over a year ago. The previous two videos were released in May.

While the exact timing of the video is unclear, in the footage Troufanov states he is 28 years old. He turned 29 on Nov. 11, suggesting the video was filmed before his second birthday in captivity.

In the video, Troufanov discusses his ongoing struggle with a lack of food and water. He also expresses fear that he and other hostages may be forgotten as the Israel Defense Forces engage in combat with Iranian-backed militant groups in Gaza and Lebanon.

Troufanov was abducted on Oct. 7, 2023, during a terrorist attack on Israel. Along with him, his grandmother, mother and girlfriend were also taken hostage. The three women have since been released but Troufanov remains in the custody of Hamas.

In a video statement, his mother expressed relief that her son is still alive, and she called on policymakers to take urgent action to secure the release of her son and the other hostages.

Troufanov, who holds dual Israeli and Russian citizenship, is also an engineer for Amazon.
