Pennsylvania bakery swamped with orders for famous election poll cookies

A little bakery in Pennsylvania is swamped with cookie orders for its famous election poll cookie. Lochel’s Bakery in Hatboro, Pennsylvania, sells 4-inch round sugar cookies with blue and white sprinkles for Harris or red and white sprinkles for Trump, each labeled with the respective candidate’s name and “2024.”

The election cookie poll tradition has become a nationwide sensation.

Orders are pouring in from across the country, with shipments backordered by three to four weeks and sales already surpassing those of the 2020 election cycle.

In a post on Facebook, Lochel’s said the cookies are currently sold out online, and they’re not anticipating shipping to be available again until next week.

With each cookie sold counting as a vote for the respective candidate, the cookie poll has accurately forecast the winner in three consecutive elections from 2008 to 2016, but failed to predict Biden’s victory over Trump in 2020.

As of Tuesday, Sept. 24, Trump-themed cookies were leading Harris-themed ones by 12,558 to 889.

The sales figures show a substantial lead for Trump-themed cookies, far exceeding traditional polling margins.

The bakery’s owner, Kathy Lochel, says customers purchasing the cookies engage in friendly banter, and for others, it’s become a family event. She notes, “It’s definitely not scientific. It’s just a delicious way I say to take the pressure off with what is going on with the election, all the ads, all the campaign stuff, just a cookie.”
