No one matched all the numbers in Saturday night’s Powerball drawing, pushing the jackpot to an estimated $1.1 billion. This marks the fifth-largest prize in the game’s history, with odds of winning at 1 in 292.2 million.
“America has waited all year for the chance to play for a billion-dollar jackpot, and what better time than Labor Day for a $1.1 billion Powerball drawing,” Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group chair and Iowa Lottery CEO, said in a statement.

More than 10 people nab $1 million, $2 million prizes
The winning numbers in Saturday’s drawing were white balls 3, 18, 22, 27, 33 and red Powerball 17, with a Power Play multiplier of 3.
According to Powerball, nine people matched all white balls, netting a $1 million prize each. Another three people who matched all white balls upped their winnings to $2 million after taking a risk on the Power Play option for an additional $1 on their ticket.
There were also 115 tickets that won $50,000 prizes and 27 tickets that won $150,000 prizes.
Record-breaking run?
Monday’s drawing, the 40th since the last jackpot was paid out on May 31, is nearing the record for longest Powerball run. That title belongs to 42 consecutive drawings back in 2024, which ended with an Oregon resident snagging $1.326 billion.
Last Monday, Aug. 25, the jackpot sat at $750 million, making it the 10th-largest payout in lotto history. That was followed by $950 million on Friday, which would’ve surpassed the seventh-largest payout by nearly $110 million.
By Saturday, however, the total dollar amount had climbed to $1 billion, placing it sixth behind other record payouts such as $1.77 billion in 2023 and $1.6 billion in 2016.
The newest prize tag of $1.1 billion, the fifth-largest in lotto history, is still roughly half of the highest jackpot ever to be won –– $2.04 billion –– which was clinched by a California player in November 2022.

The current jackpot marks the sixth time a prize has topped the $1 billion mark in the lottery’s 33-year history. While the overall odds of winning a sliver of the prize sit at around 1 in 24.9, the possibility of taking home the entire thing is an astronomical 1 in 292.2 million.
The game’s $1.1 billion prize tag is down to the fact that no one has won the entire Powerball jackpot since May 31, though people have continued contributing to its pot. Monday will be the 40th drawing since that fateful day.
