President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt is leaving the administration at the end of the month.
In a Truth Social post, the president called Leavitt “one of my most trusted aides” and said that she is leaving to spend more time with her children. Leavitt was previously on maternity leave after the birth of her second child and returned to her role in July.

“Karoline will now be one of my top outside advisors, and an influential voice within the Republican Party, as we work to defy History, and conclusively win the Midterm Elections,” Trump wrote.
Leavitt was the youngest person to ever hold the press secretary role. She played a smaller part in Trump’s first administration as a press aide and has been one of the most visible supporters of Trump’s second term and the overall “Make America Great Again” movement, The Associated Press reported.
Trump did not say who would replace Leavitt.
Leavitt posted a farewell message on X shortly after Trump made his announcement. She described her time in the role as an “honor and adventure of a lifetime,” saying she was grateful to the president for giving her the opportunity.
“Most of all, I am thankful to the President for entrusting me with the distinct privilege of speaking on his behalf at the White House podium,” Leavitt wrote. “I have spoken with great pride about the many historic accomplishments of this Administration, and I have relished holding the liberal media accountable and ensuring the American people hear the truth about President Trump’s successes.”
Leavitt also addressed her reason for leaving, writing that her job as press secretary has been rewarding but demanding and that she needs to take a step back and focus on her family.
“The truth is since returning to the White House after the birth of my daughter, I have felt in my heart that I cannot be the best mom my two young children deserve while devoting the constant time, energy, and attention required of the White House Press Secretary,” she wrote.

Later in her post, she criticized the Democrat Party, saying members are “increasingly extremist” and an “existential threat” “that seeks to destroy everything great about America.”
“I believe it is incumbent upon all of us who care about this country to fight back against that threat,” she wrote. “My fight is entering a new phase, but it is far from over.”
