English royal officials said they will strip Prince Andrew of his title due to his connections to convicted sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew, the younger brother of King Charles III, will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
Officials said Andrew will also be evicted from Royal Lodge and moved to a private residence. The royalty said the decision was “necessary.”

“These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him,” officials wrote in a statement. “Their majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”
What is Andrew’s history with Epstein?
Andrew allegedly met Epstein in 1999 after Epstein’s girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, introduced the two. Andrew had known Maxwell since they both studied at Oxford University.
Their friendship materialized fast, as flight logs show Andrew visited Epstein’s notorious island in February of that same year.
In 2000, Epstein and Andrew were spotted together multiple times, including at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club. At the time, Epstein lived in a nearby residence. Epstein was also invited to Windsor Castle for Andrew’s 40th birthday in June.
The next year, Andrew is said to have met and sexually assaulted Virginia Giuffre in London. She said Epstein set up the meeting.
Twenty years after the alleged events, Giuffre filed a lawsuit against Andrew, who denied they had ever met. The case was settled for an undisclosed sum.
In 2006, Epstein attended Princess Beatrice’s 18th birthday at Windsor Castle. Maxwell and fellow celebrity convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein were also photographed at the event. Eight days after the party, police arrested Epstein and charged him with soliciting prostitution.
Two years after his arrest, Epstein pleaded guilty to soliciting a minor for prostitution and served 13 months in prison. Andrew said that he ended contact with Epstein after he became aware of the investigation and didn’t contact him for two years.
In 2010, the two were spotted in New York City. Andrew said the meeting was just to discuss that they could no longer speak to each other but wanted to tell him in person instead of over the phone.
“At the time I felt it was the honorable and right thing to do and I admit fully that my judgment was probably colored by my tendency to be too honorable but that’s just the way it is,” he said at the time.
Andrew said he never spoke to Epstein again. But emails released in 2025 showed that wasn’t true.
