Democratic senators struck a deal with the Trump administration to avoid another government shutdown on Thursday evening, multiple news outlets are reporting.
President Donald Trump confirmed the agreement on Truth Social, stating that “Republicans and Democrats in Congress have come together to get the vast majority of the Government funded until September.”

“I am working hard with Congress to ensure that we are able to fully fund the Government, without delay,” Trump wrote. “…Hopefully, both Republicans and Democrats will give a very much needed Bipartisan ‘YES’ Vote.”
According to Axios, senators agreed to pass a government funding package that doesn’t include the Department of Homeland Security. Instead, lawmakers plan to pass a separate stopgap measure to continue DHS funding for two weeks, unnamed sources told the news outlet.
Earlier in the day, a different package that included DHS funding failed to nab the 60 votes necessary to pass a Senate procedural vote. Democrats wanted DHS funding to include new guardrails for immigration enforcement, especially after Renee Good and Alex Pretti were killed by federal agents earlier this year in Minnesota.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., previously said that Democrats would pass the other five spending proposals if they separated DHS from the budget package.
Congress has until Saturday to reach a consensus on funding or the government will enter a partial shutdown.
