Full story

Three people are dead and nine were injured after multiple shooters opened fire on a nightclub in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood early Sunday morning, police said. New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a news conference that those wounded were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police started receiving calls around 3:27 a.m. about a shooting inside Taste of the City Lounge, Tisch said. When officers arrived, they found numerous gunshot victims, ranging in age from 19 to 61. Initially, Tisch said there were 11 victims found at the scene, but officials later recovered another.

Those who died are all men: a 27-year-old, a 35-year-old and a 19-year-old, Tisch said. Names are not being released yet as authorities still need to notify their families.

The shooting happened, Tisch said, after a dispute inside the crowded club. It appeared to be gang-related, she added. Authorities found 36 shell casings from what Tisch said were multiple guns.

No one is in custody as of Sunday afternoon. Detectives are canvassing available security footage in and around the location, Tisch said, and the investigation is ongoing.

Tisch noted during questions from the press that this incident happened as New York City has seen the lowest number of shootings and victims seven months into the year that it’s ever seen on record.

“Something like this is, of course, thank God, an anomaly and it’s a terrible thing that happened this morning,” Tisch said.

Still, New York Mayor Eric Adams said, “even 1 victim of gun violence is 1 too many.”

“Shootings have scarred communities and torn too many families apart,” Adams said. He urged those with information on the shooting to contact Crimestoppers at 800-577-TIPS.

Crisis Management teams have been mobilized in the area to to provide “trauma services, support and mediation” and work with family and friends of the victims to stop “any potential retaliation,” Adams said.
