Three law enforcement officers were shot and killed, and two others were critically injured Wednesday afternoon while serving a warrant in York County, Pennsylvania, according to Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Col. Christopher Paris. The suspected gunman also died from what authorities say was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The shooting unfolded while officers were attempting to serve a warrant, Paris confirmed at the press conference.

‘No words’ for community grief
“There are simply no words I can offer to assuage the grief that this community has experienced,” Paris said.
He confirmed the two wounded officers were transported to a hospital, where they remain in critical but stable condition. York County, Pennsylvania, is about 115 miles west of Philadelphia.
The officers who were killed and injured reportedly involved members of the Northern York County Regional Police Department. The department has yet to release the names of the officers involved.
Governor Shapiro responds
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro spoke at the press conference, offering condolences.
“I think it is important that this Commonwealth knows that every day we appreciate those who put on the uniform and those who keep us safe,” Shapiro said. “This kind of violence isn’t okay. We need to do better as a society. We need to help the people who think picking up a gun is the answer to solving disputes. We need to do better when it comes to mental health. We need to do better when it comes to looking out for those in need so we don’t have to deal with tragedies like these.”
Shapiro said he is in touch with Attorney General Pam Bondi, who told him he has the full support of the federal government.
Bondi posted on X, “Violence against law enforcement is a scourge on our society and never acceptable. Pray for the officers involved.”
Shapiro called on the broader community to remember the officers’ lives lost.
“I just think as a community, it’s time for us to work hard to heal from this and to make sure that those whose lives were lost today – that something constructive can come from that in their memory that stops this kind of violence in the future,” Shapiro said.
Condolences have poured in from police and fire agencies across the state, expressing support for the Northern York County Regional Police Department and the York County Sheriff’s Office.
