Tributes pour in for Michelle Trachtenberg

Friends, colleagues, and co-stars are mourning the loss of Michelle Trachtenberg.

Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the showrunners of “Gossip Girl,” released a statement to NBC.

“Michelle was so funny, kind, and talented,” they said. “Her portrayal of Georgina Sparks was an iconic fan favorite, and she grew from a one-season villain to a beloved character over six seasons.”

Her co-star Ed Westwick also paid tribute, sharing a photo of her character on his Instagram Story. “So sad to hear of the passing of @MichelleTrachtenberg,” he wrote.

She played Georgina Sparks on “Gossip Girl” from 2008 to 2012. Her character became one of the series’ most infamous villains.

In 2000, she joined the cast of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” as Dawn Summers, Buffy’s younger sister. She remained a main character until the series ended in 2003.

Her “Buffy” co-stars also honored her memory.

James Marsters, who played Spike, wrote, “My heart is heavy today. We have lost a beautiful soul. Michelle was fiercely intelligent, howlingly funny, and a very talented person. She died much too young.”

Emma Caulfield also shared her grief, calling Trachtenberg “a little sister” and saying, “You were loved.”

A career that began with ‘Harriet the Spy’

Michelle Trachtenberg’s breakout role came in 1996 when she starred in “Harriet the Spy.” The film was Nickelodeon’s first-ever feature movie, marking a major moment for the network.
