What did Vance say during his visit to Greenland?
Meyer’s termination follows Vance’s March trip to Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory that belongs to the Kingdom of Denmark. The vice president accused Denmark of not doing “a good job” for Greenlanders. He criticized the island nation’s defense spending, saying it wasn’t spending enough on its military.
How did Meyers respond to Vance’s criticism?
Meyers allegedly sent an email to all base personnel following Vance’s visit. In it, she reportedly wrote that the vice president’s criticism did not reflect the views of the military base.
“I do not presume to understand current politics, but what I do know is the concerns of the U.S. administration discussed by Vice President Vance on Friday are not reflective of Pituffick Space Base,” Meyers said.
Meyers became the head of the Arctic base in July 2024. Previously, she served as squadron commander at the a Clear Space Force Station in Alaska.
How has the Trump administration reacted to Meyers’ termination?
Chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell responded to Meyers’ termination via social media.

The Space Force announced that Col. Shawn Lee will take command of the base.
“Commanders are expected to adhere to the highest standards of conduct, especially as it relates to remaining nonpartisan in the performance of their duties,” the statement read.

How does it fit into the bigger picture?

THE U-S SPACE OPERATION’S COMMAND ANNOUNCING THURSDAY, COLONEL SUSAN MEYERS WAS FIRED AS HEAD OF PITUFFICK SPACE BASE, CITING A “LOSS OF CONFIDENCE IN HER ABILITY TO LEAD.”
MEYERS TERMINATION COMES AFTER VANCE ACCUSED DENMARK OF NOT DOING “A GOOD JOB” FOR GREENLANDERS AND SAYING IT IS NOT SPENDING ENOUGH ON DEFENSE DURING A VISIT TO THE AUTONOMOUS DANISH TERRITORY LAST MONTH.
IN THE EMAIL TO ALL PERSONNEL ON THE BASE, OBTAINED BY MILITARY.COM, MEYERS REPORTEDLY WROTE VANCE’S CRITICISM WAS “NOT REFLECTIVE OF THE BASE.”
MEYERS CONTINUED, “I DO NOT PRESUME TO UNDERSTAND CURRENT POLITICS, BUT WHAT I DO KNOW IS THE CONCERNS OF THE U-S ADMINISTRATION DISCUSSED BY VICE-PRESIDENT VANCE ON FRIDAY ARE NOT REFLECTIVE OF PITUFFICK SPACE BASE.”
