Full story

Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance announced she is pregnant with their fourth child and third boy. The second lady said both she and the baby are doing well, and that they expect the baby in late July.

The new baby boy will join older siblings Ewan, 8, Vivek 5, and Mirabel, 4.

While the White House and Naval Observatory have been home to many children over the years, a child born to the first or second family while in office is uncommon. Usha Vance is the first known Second Lady to be pregnant while in the role.

Children in the White House

Presidential babies are rare but not unheard of. The last First Lady to give birth while living in the White House was Jacquline Kennedy in 1963. Although her son, Patrick, only lived for two days, he was the first child born to a president in a hospital.

Only one child of a president has ever had 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. listed on their birth certificate. Esther Cleveland, the daughter of President Grover Cleveland, was born in the White House on Sept., 9, 1893.

Several grandchildren of presidents or members of staff have also been born at the White House. The last child born at the White House was President Woodrow Wilson’s grandson, Francis Bowes Sayre, Jr., in 1915.

Barron Trump, President Donald Trump’s youngest son, is the most recent child of a president to call the White House home. He moved in after transferring to New York University’s Washington, D.C. campus in the fall.
