Utah Gov. Spencer Cox on Sunday said the man accused in the killing of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was “deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology,” citing information provided by the suspect’s family and acquaintances.

Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Cox discussed the ongoing investigation into Tyler Robinson, who has been charged in connection with Kirk’s death. The governor said the suspect’s behavior and beliefs appeared to be politically motivated, based on accounts from those close to him.

“That information comes from the people around him — from his family members and friends,” Cox said when asked to elaborate on comments he previously made to “The Wall Street Journal.

Cox emphasized that his assessment was not politically driven.

“If this was MAGA and a radicalized MAGA person, I would be saying that as well,” he said, underscoring that any form of political extremism should be condemned.
