Musk made several remarks about Canada in the past, including in a since-removed post to X in February 2025.
He wrote, “Canada is not a real country,” after hundreds of thousands of Canadians signed a petition urging the government to revoke his dual citizenship.
Although Musk was born in South Africa, he received a Canadian passport as a teenager through his mother who was born in Canada.

On March 12, British Columbia Hydro banned Tesla products from its electric vehicle rebate program as part of the provincial government’s move to give preference to Canadian goods and exclude U.S. ones from rebates amid the ongoing Canada-U.S. trade war.
Musk called the move “crazy.”
