Ghislaine Maxwell’s recruitment

In an excerpt obtained by The Guardian, Giuffre sets the scene as a 16-year-old employee at Mar-a-Lago, where her father worked maintenance. She describes feeling hopeful and inspired by the wealthy guests who visited the resort.

“After a few days, my dad said he wanted to introduce me to Mr. Trump himself,” she wrote. “They weren’t friends, exactly. But Dad worked hard, and Trump liked that – I’d seen photos of them posing together, shaking hands. So one day my father took me to Trump’s office.”

Weeks before her 17th birthday, Giuffre met Ghislaine Maxwell for the first time. She recalled Maxwell’s driver later testifying that the British socialite ordered him to stop the car after spotting the teen and commenting on her “notably young” appearance.

Giuffre said Maxwell approached her at the spa and described the socialite as “mesmerizing,” noting the woman’s expensive purse “cost more than my dad’s truck.” Maxwell allegedly praised her for her interest in massage and offered to introduce her to a “wealthy man” who was looking for a traveling masseuse — Jeffrey Epstein.

“‘Come meet him,’” Giuffre quoted Maxwell as saying. “‘Come tonight after work.’”

When Giuffre arrived that evening, Maxwell appeared “impatient” as she thanked her father for dropping her off. Giuffre remembers the mansion’s walls filled with nude paintings before being led into a “massage lesson” that turned into an alleged sexual assault.

“We started in on his heels and arches, then moved up his body,” she wrote. “But Maxwell put her hands on top of mine and guided them to his rear. ‘It’s important that you don’t ignore any part of the body,’ she said.”

Epstein allegedly questioned her during the encounter, asking, “Are you on birth control?” and “Tell me about your first time.” Afterward, Giuffre wrote that Epstein and Maxwell targeted vulnerable girls who were poor, homeless or had been previously abused.

“A master manipulator, he threw what looked like a lifeline to girls who were drowning,” she wrote.

Virginia Giuffre on Prince Andrew

Giuffre describes how Epstein and Maxwell trafficked her to powerful men, including Prince Andrew. She recounts three alleged sexual encounters with him, the first in London when she was 17.

“I suddenly thought of something: my mom would never forgive me if I met someone as famous as Prince Andrew and didn’t pose for a picture,” she wrote. That image — showing Giuffre with Prince Andrew and Ghislaine Maxwell — later became infamous.

After dinner and a nightclub visit, she says Maxwell instructed her to “do for him what you do for Jeffrey.” Giuffre described Andrew as “friendly but entitled,” adding that “he believed having sex with me was his birthright.”

Afterward, Giuffre says Maxwell told her, “You did well. The prince had fun.” Epstein allegedly paid her $15,000.

Giuffre wrote of two more encounters — one in New York involving a photo with a puppet resembling Andrew and another on Epstein’s private island, which she describes as an orgy with underage girls.

She also recalled relying on Xanax and other drugs “just to survive.”

Fallout and recent developments

In February 2022, Giuffre and Prince Andrew reached a civil settlement. He denied wrongdoing but agreed to make a substantial donation to her foundation supporting survivors. The amount was not disclosed, though outlets estimate it was around $16 million.

His ex-wife, the Duchess of York, recently made headlines after charities dropped her when learning about resurfaced emails to Epstein.

Andrew’s association with Epstein has long drawn scrutiny. He was photographed with the financier in New York’s Central Park in 2010 — the only known photo of the two together.

In a 2019 BBC interview, Andrew called his friendship with Epstein “useful” but said he ended it after that visit. By 2022, he had stepped back from royal duties amid public pressure.

Epstein later died by suicide in jail while awaiting trial. Maxwell is now serving a 20-year sentence, though Giuffre was not involved in either criminal case.

However, Maxwell recently reemerged in headlines after meeting with Justice Department officials for several hours of questioning over the summer. Her attorney said she answered questions about roughly 100 different people linked to Epstein, fueling speculation that she may be cooperating with investigators for leniency.

Giuffre’s memoir, “Nobody’s Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Abuse and Fighting for Justice,” is scheduled to be released on Oct. 21.
