Police encounter at neighboring house
According to a press release from the Los Angeles Police Department, California Highway Patrol requested assistance after a hit-and-run. Officers were searching for three suspects who fled into a residential neighborhood on Tuesday, April 8.
When the LAPD arrived, they were directed behind a home. There, they spotted a woman at a neighboring house — later identified as Jillian Lauren, the wife of the Weezer bassist — who was armed with a handgun.
Police say they ordered her to drop the weapon, but she refused. She then allegedly pointed the gun at officers, prompting an officer-involved shooting.
Lauren ran back into her home after being shot. She was later taken into custody after exiting the house.
The Weezer bassist’s wife was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and booked on attempted murder charges. She was not one of the original hit-and-run suspects, according to police.
Lauren was released on the night of Wednesday, April 9, on a $1 million bond. Just weeks earlier, she revealed on Instagram that she had been diagnosed with cancer and had begun treatment.

Still set to perform at Coachella
Despite the chaos, Shriner appeared upbeat in the TMZ video. When asked if he would still be at Coachella, he confirmed: “Yeah.”
The Weezer bassist’s wife, charged with attempted murder, has yet to speak publicly about the incident herself. And while the band has remained silent, Shriner’s brief confirmation means Weezer will still take the stage Saturday — just one week after being announced as a last-minute addition to the lineup.

Weekend one of the Coachella music festival will soon be underway, and Weezer is confirmed to hit the stage Saturday.
Their longtime bassist, Scott Shriner, has had a whirlwind of a week after his wife, Jillian Lauren Shriner, was shot by police in Los Angeles Wednesday and charged with attempted murder.
“I wanna know, how’s your wife doing? A lot of people are concerned,” a paparazzo asked Shriner on Thursday. “She’s alright. Thank you for asking,” Shriner responded.
TMZ captured this moment Thursday morning, showing Shriner walking his dogs just hours after the incident.
Jillian Lauren Shriner, a bestselling true crime author, is now tied to a real-life crime scene. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, California Highway Patrol officers called for backup while searching for three hit-and-run suspects. When they arrived behind a house, they noticed a woman at a neighboring home—later identified as Jillian—holding a handgun.
Police say they asked her to drop her weapon numerous times, but she refused and allegedly pointed it at officers. That’s when an officer-involved shooting occurred. Jillian ran inside her home but was later taken into custody after she came out.
No officers were injured, and Jillian was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. It was later confirmed that she had no connection to the hit-and-run that initially brought police to the area. She was charged with attempted murder and released Wednesday night on a $1 million bond.
Just last month, Jillian publicly shared her cancer diagnosis and announced she had started treatment.
Despite it all, Scott Shriner appears to be in good spirits. TMZ footage shows him smiling and chatting with paparazzi. “See you at Coachella,” Shriner said when asked about the performance. “You’ll still be at Coachella?” a paparazzo asked. “Yeah,” Shriner replied.
The band hasn’t publicly addressed the issue yet, but the show must go on. After just being announced as a last-minute addition to the Coachella lineup last week, Scott Shriner himself confirmed he’ll be there—bass in hand—come Saturday.
