The brief exchange marks the first public comment from Shriner after the incident. So far, the band has not released an official statement.

Police encounter at neighboring house

According to a press release from the Los Angeles Police Department, California Highway Patrol requested assistance after a hit-and-run. Officers were searching for three suspects who fled into a residential neighborhood on Tuesday, April 8.

When the LAPD arrived, they were directed behind a home. There, they spotted a woman at a neighboring house — later identified as Jillian Lauren, the wife of the Weezer bassist — who was armed with a handgun.

Police say they ordered her to drop the weapon, but she refused. She then allegedly pointed the gun at officers, prompting an officer-involved shooting.

Lauren ran back into her home after being shot. She was later taken into custody after exiting the house.

The Weezer bassist’s wife was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and booked on attempted murder charges. She was not one of the original hit-and-run suspects, according to police.

Lauren was released on the night of Wednesday, April 9, on a $1 million bond. Just weeks earlier, she revealed on Instagram that she had been diagnosed with cancer and had begun treatment.

Still set to perform at Coachella

Despite the chaos, Shriner appeared upbeat in the TMZ video. When asked if he would still be at Coachella, he confirmed: “Yeah.”

The Weezer bassist’s wife, charged with attempted murder, has yet to speak publicly about the incident herself. And while the band has remained silent, Shriner’s brief confirmation means Weezer will still take the stage Saturday — just one week after being announced as a last-minute addition to the lineup.
