A new poll suggests 31% of Canadians think the United States might attempt “direct action” to take control of Canada. The poll also suggests 20% of Americans think the U.S. government might attempt direct action to take control of Canada in the future.

The poll, conducted by Canadian research company Leger in the aftermath of the U.S. military intervention in Venezuela, also showed that Canadians could also “see a risk of future U.S. intervention in Greenland, Cuba, Colombia, Panama, and Iran.”

More than half of Canadians surveyed think the American intervention in Venezuela violated the country’s sovereignty and set a bad precedent. Less than a third of the Canadians who responded thought the intervention was justified because it removed a “corrupt regime.” In comparison, about 40% of Americans thought it was justified.

According to the survey, 56% of Canadians also said they have a worse impression of the U.S. government after the intervention than they did before it.
