A McDonald’s on Franconia Road in Fairfax County, Virginia, now bars anyone under 21 from dining inside as of May 2025. The policy followed repeated incidents of student violence involving large groups near multiple local schools.

The restaurant’s owner says the policy was created with school officials and law enforcement oversight to protect staff, guests, and the community. A sign at the entrance explains that the new policy aims to ensure the safety of employees, patrons, and the surrounding community, and adults must ring a doorbell to gain entry.

The policy is temporary, drive-thru and mobile orders remain open to all ages while the restaurant seeks a long-term safety solution.
