On Oct. 29, Amnesty International called for a war crimes investigation into a U.S. airstrike on a prison in Yemen. The April 28 strike, Amnesty said, “inflicted catastrophic civilian harm” and “amounted to an indiscriminate attack” against a civilian target.

The global watchdog group conducted in-depth interviews with fifteen civilian survivors of the attack and also reviewed satellite imagery and photographic evidence before issuing its report.

The strike, part of Operation Rough Rider, is estimated to have killed at least 68 civilian prisoners, most of whom were being detained temporarily only for minor immigration violations.

“We take all reports of civilian harm seriously and are working to release the assessment results for Operation Rough Rider soon,” said U.S. Navy Capt. Tim Hawkins, according to The Washington Post.
