Billionaire Clive Palmer announced his new political party, Trumpet of Patriots, inspired by Donald Trump’s campaign themes, including the phrase “drain the swamp.” The party aims to challenge the existing political landscape in Australia, while promoting “commonsense policies for Australia.”
Palmer criticized the political system for high costs of living, stating that “Australians are being ripped off by the political system, unelected bureaucrats and the lobbyists who support them.” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that Palmer’s campaign spending represents a “distortion of democracy” and questioned the value of such expenditures.
