Baylor University in Waco, Texas, has returned a $643,401 grant from the Eula Mae and John Baugh Foundation after backlash from evangelical leaders regarding LGBTQIA+ advocacy. Linda Livingstone, Baylor’s president, announced the return, citing concerns that the grant’s advocacy contradicted the university’s policy on human sexuality, which affirms traditional beliefs.

Gaynor Yancey, C3I Director, stated that the research aimed to illuminate practices influencing congregational inclusivity and belonging.

The decision to return the grant reflects concerns about changes in the university’s Christian mission, according to reports from Good Faith Media and other critics.
