The Times of London has retracted an article that falsely attributed criticism of New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s policy agenda to former mayor Bill de Blasio. This comes after the newspaper discovered the reporter had been misled by an individual impersonating de Blasio.

De Blasio issued a statement on social media, calling the article “entirely false and fabricated,” and said he had not spoken with the reporter. “Those quotes aren’t mine,” he said.

De Blasio also reiterated his support for Mamdani’s platform. The Times of London apologized for the error, removed the piece and acknowledged that its reporter was deceived by someone falsely claiming to be the former mayor.
