Former U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on X that President Trump’s 20-point ceasefire plan for Gaza was based on a very similar plan developed under former President Biden’s administration, and that Trump’s achievement was built off of Biden’s own work. The Biden administration had secured the release of 135 hostages from Hamas shortly before President Trump was sworn in for his second term as part of a major ceasefire agreement rolled out during Biden’s final days as president.
Israel ultimately violated that agreement after Biden left office, causing the ceasefire to collapse.

Now, Blinken says, the ceasefire plan put forward by Trump looks remarkably similar to the one that the Biden administration already tried.
Blinken raised important questions while observing the similarities, asking the Trump administration to make sure that it follows through and takes care of specific details where the previous plan remained vague.
Blinken said the path towards peace in Gaza, which he advised Trump to follow, “centers on temporary, transitional authorities for Gaza’s governance, security, humanitarian assistance, and rebuilding, led by Arab and international partners alongside Palestinians, backed by the United States, and ultimately handed over to full Palestinian control,” according to NBC Montana.
