On Sunday, June 1, Mohamed Sabry Soliman allegedly attacked a pro-Israel demonstration in Boulder, Colorado, using a makeshift flamethrower and injuring eight people. Soliman entered the U.S. with a B2 visa in August 2022, which expired in February 2023, and filed for asylum in September 2022, according to Homeland Security.
Authorities said Soliman yelled “Free Palestine,” acted alone, was medically evaluated, charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is being held on a $10 million bond. Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, D, called the attack a “heinous act of terror,” while FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino described it as ideologically motivated violence under investigation.
The attack highlights rising antisemitic violence amid ongoing conflict in Gaza and was condemned by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, who urged full prosecution of the suspect.
