Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., stated Monday that California should not receive disaster relief funding unless it makes changes to its wildfire management practices. California has suffered devastating wildfires, resulting in at least 24 deaths and thousands of homes being destroyed or damaged.

Tuberville criticized California’s leadership in a Newsmax interview, claiming that the state’s policies contributed to the wildfires and that it should be held accountable for its actions.

“They refuse to do it. They don’t deserve anything, to be honest with you, unless they show us, they’re going to make some changes,” Tuberville said.

He expressed a willingness to send some aid but emphasized that California must demonstrate a commitment to improving its wildfire prevention strategies.
